Superficial venous reflux is a condition that develops when the valves that normally cause blood flow out of the legs become damaged or injured. This condition causes blood to build up in the legs. The most common symptoms of superficial venous reflux include pain, swelling, heaviness, fatigue, varicose veins in the legs, and other symptoms from varicose veins that reduce a person's quality of life.
Closure Fast™ is a minimally invasive treatment for superficial venous reflux. During this procedure, a vein specialist inserts a thin catheter into the vein through a small opening. The catheter sends radiofrequency (RF) energy to the vein wall, and as it heats up, it causes it to collapse and close.
Since the valves cannot be repaired, the only alternative is to redirect blood flow through the healthy veins. Traditionally, this has been done surgically by removing or stripping the problematic vein of the leg. Thanks to ClosureFast ™, a varicose vein surgeon can provide a minimally invasive alternative to vein removal by simply closing the problematic vein instead of removing it. Once the vein closes, other healthy veins can replace it and drain blood from the veins.
Typically, a vein specialist takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Still, patients typically spend 2-3 hours in health facilities due to normal pre and post-treatment procedures.
Some patients report that the ClosureFast ™ Procedure is only slightly painful. Your varicose vein surgeon will apply local or regional anesthesia to numb the area that will be treated. Hence, the minizine the pain significantly.
Closure Fast™ is normally performed with local anesthesia and/or sedation.
Many patients can return to normal activities immediately after the varicose vein procedure. Your varicose vein specialist may recommend taking a regular walking regimen for a couple of weeks after a varicose vein treatment and suggest refraining from strenuous activities (for example, lifting heavy objects) or standing for prolonged periods.
Most patients experience significant improvement in their varicose vein symptoms, including pain from varicose veins within 1-2 weeks after the procedure.
Usually, no scars are left after the procedure because it is done over the skin to remove the varicose veins or spider veins.
The vein simply becomes fibrous tissue after treatment. Eventually, the vein will gradually incorporate into the surrounding tissue. A study shows that 89% of treated veins are indistinguishable from other tissues in the body one year after the ClosureFast ™ Procedure.
98% of patients who have had the ClosureFast™ Procedure would recommend it to a friend or family member who has similar varicose vein problems or spider veins in the legs.
